Open Fung Artist-in-Research

Open Fung’s Artist-in-Research program is a collaboration that brings artists into sustained dialogue with Open Fung scientists, not to illustrate their work, but to genuinely explore alongside it.

• remote live video conferencing meetings
• in-person research trip to Open Fung's Lab in Oakland, CA
• site visits to partner locations around the Bay Area (NASA Ames Research Center, Far West Fungi, Stanford University Peay Lab, Exploratorium)
• collaborative research and experimentation
• production of molecular protein models made with Alpha Fold and PyMOL
• free, public online artist talk and in-conversation event
• production of sketchbook documenting research and process
• public exhibitions of culminating artworks
